What is Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) ?

 

The full form of BCom is Bachelor of Commerce. B.Com is a three-year UG degree course recognised by the Universities Grants Commission (UGC).  Students can pursue B.Com programmes as full-time BCom, Distance BCom, or Online BCom. BCom courses are one of the most popular courses amongst the Class 12 graduates with the Commerce stream. According to a survey report, with nearly 9.33 lakh enrolment, BCom has been the third most desired course in India after Class 12

Candidates can also pursue BCom (Honours) if they wish for in-depth knowledge in the Commerce stream. The Honours course is designed to offer knowledge in specialised subjects; while the general BCom course focuses on an overview of all the subjects under the umbrella of the Commerce stream. Apart from BCom General or BCom Hons, several universities offer integrated B.Com courses; BCom LLB, BCom MBA, and BCom CMA are a few of the integrated courses on offer. The three-year BCom course is divided into six semesters. Students pursuing the course can choose elective subjects of their choice in some semesters.

BCom Subjects include Financial Accounting, Business Laws, Economics, Taxation, Auditing, and Cost Accounting, among others. With a BCom degree, one gets an option to start a career in related fields such as Finance, Accounting, Banking, Insurance, etc. The average starting salary of a BCom graduate is INR 3 LPA. Besides BCom, a major chunk of students passing Class 12 with Commerce stream aspire for Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, and Cost Accounting. After completion of the BCom course from a recognised institute, one can go for courses in Teaching, Advertising, Journalism, Mass Communication, Design, Law, etc.

Choosing B.Com as a career option is a very smart decision as B.Com is one of the trending courses to pursue after completing higher secondary examinations. B.Com is the abbreviation of Bachelor of Commerce, and it is a three-year undergraduate course consisting of commerce and related subjects.

The course curriculum is designed to provide students with a wide range of managerial skills and understanding in streams like finance, accounting, taxation and management. Candidates have the option to pursue the course in both distance and regular mode of education. B.Com Honors includes specialized subjects for the students.

It is one of the most sought after courses that students opt for after 12th grade. The course covers a wide range of subjects including mathematics, accounting and economics. To be eligible for the course, candidates must pass their higher secondary examination with at least 50% aggregate, as generally the admission for this course is based on merit. They do not need to have any prior background in commerce and can study B.Com after any stream, although it is preferred to have mathematics as a subject.
